Australia beat Sri Lanka by 32 runs to level the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series in the fifth and final match at Hobart on Wednesday.

The visitors got off to a good start as the openers Mahela Jayawardene and Tillakaratne Dilshan added 57 runs for the first wicket in 73 balls. However, Xavier Doherty struck three quick wickets to reduce Sri Lanka to 77 for four in the 21st over of the innings.

Angelo Mathews revived the innings for Sri Lanka with a couple of handy partnerships with Kushal Perera and Jeevan Mendis. However, the hosts kept picking up wickets at regular intervals and ensured that the run-rate was under control. Nonetheless, Mathews managed to score his 13th half-century in ODIs.

Moises Henriques and Doherty picked up three wickets each while Mitchell Johnson scalped two wickets.

Earlier, Phil Hughes slammed his second One-Day International century against Sri Lanka as Australia managed to reach 247 for five after being put in to bat first.

Hughes slammed thirteen fours and one six. He was unbeaten on 138 along with Moises Henriques.

Glenn Maxwell, who replaced Michael Clarke in the final ODI at Hobart, scored a mere nine runs as he was caught at extra cover by Lahiru Thirmanne.

David Warner and Matthew Wade opened the innings for Australia, putting up a partnership of 31 runs, when Dilshan bowled the former for 10. Wade soon departed as he was dismissed for a leg before wicket by Nuwan Kulasekara.
