Colombo High Court yesterday issued an arrest warrant on Captain Senaka Haripriya de Silva, a personal assistant of former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka for evading court in a case where he is charged with harboring Army deserters.

Captain De Silva was not present in Court when the case against him and Mr. Fonseka was taken up for hearing by Judge Rohini Walgama, resulting in the arrest warrant being issued.

However, the case was postponed to September 4 because Senior Counsel Saliya Pieris who is defending Mr. Fonseka was ill.

Counsel Rukshan Nanayakkara, Thanuka Nandasiri and Saliya Pieris appeared for Mr. Fonseka while Senior State Counsel Madhawa Tennakoon with Nayomi Wickramasekera prosecuted.

Counsel Kelum Kumarasinghe appeared for Senaka Haripriya De Silva.

The Attorney General indicted the accused under Sections 128 and 133 of the Penal code for committing mutiny and insubordination and for harbouring ten army deserters. (T. Farook Thajudeen and Jehan Gunasekara)
