Ajith Prasannahewa remanded

Former Southern Provincial Council (SPC) Minister A.S.A. Ajith Prasannahewa who is contesting the forthcoming SPC election from the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) was remanded till tomorrow by Colombo Fort Magistrate today.

Magistrate Thilina Gamage made this order after visiting the private hospital where the suspect is being currently undergoing treatment.

The suspect, a retired army Major was arrested on charges of conducting an illegal election campaign and assaulting a policeman in Galle last week.
The arrest was made by a special unit of Galle Police, at a private hospital in Kollupitiya on Sunday (09).

The suspect had been further charged for unlawful use of uniforms and badges belonging to the Sri Lanka Army. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
