Kandy, Feb. 24 (Daily Mirror)- Renewing his pledge made during the 2019 Presidential election, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today said he will focus on the maximum on women's health if elected as President of this country.
"I was called 'Pad Man' during the last Presidential election when I spoke of women's health. Talking of women's health is taboo only in Sri Lanka. However, Scotland and New Zealand provide sanitary pads to women free of charge. I will follow these countries and will do the same. You can call me Pad Man," Premadasa told a women's convention organized by SJB in Kandy.

Agreed. And who can forget that infamous moment when her father ordered a Thai Airways flight to fly for the sole purpose of transporting orchids from Thailand to Sri Lanka for her wedding. With no compensation for the airline or consideration for travellers booked on that flight. It was her father that started this whole disease of family entitlement. Fast forward 20 years and MR did the same with Emirates. These maniacs need to be stopped.

I do not think that it is a matter of money. Sanitary products must be available at an affordable price. Are you proposing a 'Pad department' to distribute pads free to all women? Pad line ups? Letters from Grama Niladari to get free? Please talk about relevant matters. The real 'Pad Man' devised an inexpensive method of locally mfg. the Pads! Have you even watched the movie? Please tell us how you handle the country and economy differently with relevant facts and realistic accounting! Not Motherhood statements or waiting to get there with a peoples' protest vote

Sajith, i think you are the leader that SL needs at this time. You are modern and have the vision to guide SL's next generation. Our country needs more women in parliament, and in industry and as leaders. Look what our middle aged and old men have done to the country. You also saw Ranil for who he really is and i suspected you declined the presidency because you did not wish to compromise your principles and be a puppet of the Pohottuwa goons. I will vote for you. and all you need to do is to stay clean and put qualified, experienced and forward thinking people in the right places and listen to their advice and act on it. In the meantime you need to build a united country where everyone feels proud to be part of and give them a future. Judging by the comments to this article, it looks like it will be tough going but stay true and keep honing your political skills. You will be appreciated one day.

Well he did not take the job because he did not know how to do the job by getting people onside. He leadership qualities are very limited. What ever said and done RW is getting on with the job with the materials and tools at his disposal. Even in corporate life a CEO has to make compromises to accommodate the views of their executive team. Ranil has had to do the same. The question in whether in doing so if the country is in a better place than it was when he stepped in, and is the medium long term trajectory on the right course. People may have different assessments on this coloured by their individual political pursuations. I however know many staunch SJBers and anti-Ranil the Aragalaya days who are now openly advocating that RW was the correct choice at that time, and that he needs to be given another term to complete the radical transformation that is in progress.

The fact that Premadasa is increasingly concerned about women's health and wants to bring about improvements and changes in this area of medicine is a highly commendable thing! It is above all women who provide special services for Sri Lankan society, who are largely ignored and undervalued by men and therefore also by politicians!!! If Premadasa now wants to give women's health a high political priority, he is promising something that should have happened a long time ago!!! On the other hand, women make up more than fifty percent of the population! One can only hope that his promise was not a tactical election statement! But I'm afraid that with his policies, which remain unclear and nebulous in many ways, especially in economic policy, you won't win an election or the presidency!!!

Sajith is trying to act like Baba. When his father was the president, an empty Air Lanka flight went to Fukuoka twice a week to bring in orchids from Japan for his son-in-law's flower business. All knew what was happening but didn't utter a word against it because his father was a dangerous man. Again, his father's underworld henchmen from Keselwatta were given jobs at Air Lanka. @ Uthum; RW selling every part of SL without having incentives for industries to increase production in every sense by taxing everybody. Is that a talent? But, SP as the only opposition member who helps the downtrodden with computer labs and busses for poor schools, medical equipment for hospitals, compensation for people who died in gas explosions, restoring power at Mihintale and many more. That's the guage that matters.
