Colombo, Jan. 13 (Daily Mirror) - Former MP and National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa has decided to call off his continuous 'satyagraha' campaign held in front of the Ministry of Education.
The decision follows the government’s announcement to postpone the proposed Grade 6 education reforms until next year.
The protest, carried out with the participation of several civil society representatives and supporters, was aimed at demanding the complete withdrawal of the new education reforms and calling for Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya to resign from her post as Education Minister.
Weerawansa said the suspension of the reforms had addressed the immediate concerns raised through the agitation, prompting the decision to conclude the protest.
