Colombo, June 28 (Daily Mirror) - Water levels in the Castlereagh and Maussakelle reservoirs have increased following intermittent heavy rainfall in their catchment areas, according to engineers in charge of the reservoirs.
They said the water level at the Maussakelle Reservoir is now 29 feet above the overflow level, while the Castlereagh Reservoir stands 14.91 feet above its overflow level.
With the rise in reservoir levels, hydroelectric power generation has been increased to maximum capacity at the Kanyen, Laxapana, New Laxapana, Polpitiya and Wimalasurendra power stations, engineers in charge of the hydropower facilities said.
The improved water storage is expected to support enhanced renewable electricity generation amid favourable weather conditions.
