Water level in reservoirs satisfactory, but not sufficient: Irrigation Dept.



Though the onset of heavy monsoonal rains, water levels  in the reservoirs are yet to reach the sufficient level for hydropower generation, Irrigation (Hydrology) Director Eng. S.P.C. Sugeeshwara said.

He told the Daily Mirror that they cannot exactly say about the water level in reservoirs, but it is in the satisfactory level with more downpour is expected these days.

He said the Kelani River, Maussakelle, Castlereigh, Kothmale and Victoria reservoirs are still getting filled due to heavy rains, he said.

Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department's water management engineer said the rainfall in southern and western provinces of the country, makes water level in Gin and Kalu rivers higher. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
