Several important documents at the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) have been reportedly destroyed, the Society of Government Pharmacists alleged.

Its President Thushara Ranadeva told the Daily Mirror that NMRA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Vijith Gunasekera has intervened in the destruction of these documents.

“The CEO has been disposing of certain files that belong to the NMRA.

Last night (01), the CEO visited the NMRA premises and eliminated some files using a paper cutter. These files have been placed into bags,” Thushara Ranadeva claimed.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror learns that the NMRA CEO has been asked to step down; however, he had refused to do so.

The NMRA headed by its former Chairman and current CEO Dr. Vijith Gunasekera has faced a spate of allegations with regard to the influx of inferior-quality medicines in the recent past. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Premalal Perera Friday, 03 November 2023 10:24 AM

Government property? It is the Government who is robbing the country and it is also the government who is destroying evidence. We have to go to the government to get redress and it is the government who will set the culprits free. So where do we go from here? Any suggestions?

In this country of yakkos, all thuggery and illegality can be executed with full impunity. Isn't this what Mahinda taught and promoted during his regime?

Bring all these scoundrels including the sordid former minister to justice. Let us see how the pin president will handle this case.

Natalie Nanayaka Friday, 03 November 2023 11:16 AM

I hope his punishment exceeds his reward from the drug mafia. This will be the first test for the new minister to see if he is just another Keheliya clone.

    Sandy Friday, 03 November 2023 11:26 AM

Most politicians are stupid it is corrupt government officials who are the real players. Ihk mahanama was caught while accepting millions as bribe. They hide behind politicians.

Jagath Ekanaya Friday, 03 November 2023 11:47 AM

This will be a test for the new health minister. We will know if he is genuine in his actions or is he just another government lackey appointed by the president who takes his orders from the drug mafia.

    Mahesh Friday, 03 November 2023 12:07 PM

Wrong people were hired in the first place in most of the cases. The politicians have made this country as a mafia state and what else can you expect? Cleaning up this infestation takes a long time

    Observer Friday, 03 November 2023 12:27 PM
