Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra passes away at 89



EastMojo - Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra has passed away at the age of 89. Media sources confirmed that he died in Mumbai, weeks after being discharged from Breach Candy Hospital following a period of medical treatment.

Dharmendra had been admitted to the hospital earlier this month and was on life support at one point, according to those familiar with his condition. He was discharged on November 12 and taken home with arrangements in place for his ongoing care. At that time, the hospital had said he was stable.

The actor, who would have turned 90 on December 8, had been under strict medical observation in recent weeks.

Dharmendra, widely regarded as one of Indian cinema’s most iconic and successful actors, worked in over 300 films across six decades. He made his debut in 1960 with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere and went on to play leading roles in some of Hindi cinema’s most popular films.

He was last seen in the 2024 film Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. His next appearance was expected in Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan.

Often celebrated as one of the most successful stars in Hindi film history, Dharmendra received the Padma Bhushan in 2012 for his contribution to Indian cinema.
