PARLIAMENT (Daily Mirror)- It is unreasonable to make budget allocations to former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Gotabaya Rajapaksa who have been held responsible by the Supreme Court for the economic crisis, NPP MP Vijitha Herath said today.
He told Parliament that it is not reasonable at all to allocate funds to maintain the two Presidents who were instrumental in causing the economic crisis.
The MP said funds allocated from the budget 2024 for former Presidents had been increased from Rs. 84 million to Rs. 110 million.
He said they could not approve of allocating funds for those who were instrumental for the economic crisis when people were struggling to make ends meet.
The MP also said 66.7 percent of the budgetary allocations had been made to the President and that only 21 percent had been allocated to all 27 ministers while only 12 percent had been allocated to the Prime Minister.

What a mess and disgrace. No need to allocate funds for these thieves when people can’t access a single meal. People are starving.

I have reliable, reputable information that Mahinda and Gota Rajapaksa and other members of the Rajapaksa clan who benefit from such budgetary allocations, in the spirit of the Buddha's teachings, have withdrawn all budgetary resources allocated to them for the benefit of the poor, especially the malnourished and starving children of Sri Lanka. not just for the moment, but for your entire lifetime!!! Someone else say that they have no compassion for people's suffering or that people can't change!!! Furthermore, they said that they wanted to be a role model and example for other super rich people who want to improve their bad kamma through good deeds (kusala)!!! They hope Sri Lanka will continue to remember them through these good deeds that will turn their lives around!!!

Two of the past Presidents are in Parliament. So they are not retired within the meaning of the word retired. Then those two are disqualified to receive all the perks

Rs.110 million allocated is it to all past Presidents and their living wives. This is going on may be after Mrs.Bandaranayake's period (1970).It should be in the constitution. It is unfair to question if it is the case wives of Presidents are entitled for privileges.Inreasesing amounts every budget is obvious with present price increases.A president resigning before his period is over I am not sure its their in the constitution for entitlement.sorry I am not pinpointing any one.

Allocating funds to the Rajapakses should not be of much concern. It is Chinese and Indian gift money that is paying for this.
