Anuradhapura district Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Uddika Premaratne, who resigned from his Parliamentary seat recently, said he was expecting a work visa in Canada.
Premaratne, who is currently in Canada, told a local YouTube channel that he had not sought political asylum in Canada as reported and that he was expecting a work visa.
He also said he sent his resignation while being in Canada.
"I have not learned anything from politics. Only what I earned from acting is left with me now,” he said.

Lol. What about the vehicle you got from public money. Sold right. Also how come you go on a visit visa and look for a job. Canada should deport him. That shooting may be done by himself to gain a way to stay in CAD.

Government employees have to return to the Country and submit their resignation while here. If not, it is considered Vacation of Post. Are there different rules for MPs.?

What you told the Canadian High commission in order to obtain travel Visa what matters when you are going to obtain work visa. Consult an immigration Lawyer.

If you are seeking "Work Visa", you should have applied for it in Sri Lanka. You have entered as a tourist, now seeking work visa means you are trying to hoodwink the people. You are a bogus refugee.
Keerthi Wijebahu Tuesday, 05 March 2024 02:30 AM
Assuming he entered Canada on visit visa, his chance of getting a work visa is next to nothing. He must have applied for political asylum on the day one in Canada. Who are we kidding?
Jeanne Tuesday, 05 March 2024 02:38 AM
Can our politicians get any worse???? He states that he hasn't "learned" anything from politics or does he mean "earned"? He refers to his acting career in which he has "earned" something. If this chap cannot differentiate between "learned" and "earned" then Canada is employing fools.
Roshanaly Tuesday, 05 March 2024 09:33 AM
He does not know about the Sri Lankan Politics. Chosen the wrong field.

Feeling sorry for the Canadians!
Tissa Fernando Tuesday, 05 March 2024 08:24 PM
He is much better than those who have been admitted in Canada during the past few years . Most of these guys had set up thriving auto theft business I.e stealing cars and exporting to middle East and Africa. Uddika is at least a decent man compared to them regardless of the political party he was in.
