US Embassy condoles death of Sri Lanka Navy Lt. Koyan Chamitha

The United States Embassy in Sri Lanka has expressed its condolences over the passing of Sri Lanka Navy Lieutenant Koyan Chamitha.

Lieutenant Koyan Chamitha of the Sri Lanka Navy’s elite Special Boat Squadron (SBS), passed away yesterday at the Walisara Wardroom.

Lieutenant Chamitha was the first Sri Lankan naval officer to successfully complete the United States Navy SEAL basic training program. He served in the Sri Lanka Navy’s Special Boat Squadron and was recognized for his distinguished and dedicated service.

In a statement, the US Embassy said that Lieutenant Chamitha’s professional career reflected the strong and enduring partnership between the United States and Sri Lanka, particularly in the areas of maritime security and special operations.

"His passing is a loss for the Sri Lanka Navy community. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time," the embassy said.
