UNP hints early presidential poll
UNP Assistant Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam during the weekend hinted at an early Presidential election.
Mr. Kariyawasam came out with the remark during a public meeting in Kurunegala.
“Many are willing to back the incumbent President at a presidential election if such a poll is held in the near future. Some parties and individuals will back the incumbent President at the next Presidential poll. Some in SLPP had already endorsed the path taken by Mr. Wickremesinghe while some more will join him in the future.
We will face the presidential election as a vast alliance,” Mr. Kariyawasam said.
“There will be only a handful of candidates at the next presidential election and it will be easy for the people to choose,” he added. (Yohan Perera)
