UK couple donates £2,000 to ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ fund



A British couple residing near the Sri Lanka High Commission in the United Kingdom has donated £2,000 to the Government’s ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund to assist communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wood formally informed the High Commission of their contribution and handed over a letter along with the relevant receipt to Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the UK, Nimal Senadheera.

In their letter, the couple stated that the donation was made to support relief efforts for Sri Lankans impacted by the cyclone. They also shared fond memories of their recent three-week visit to Sri Lanka during the Christmas and New Year period.

The Woods noted that they were deeply impressed by Sri Lanka’s natural beauty, the warmth and admirable qualities of its people, and its rich and diverse cuisine.

They further observed that despite the devastation caused by the cyclone, the country was demonstrating strong resilience and a determined spirit of recovery.

Expressing their appreciation for the cordial relationship they share with the Sri Lanka High Commission, the couple conveyed their hope to maintain friendly ties in the future and extended their best wishes to Sri Lanka on the occasion of its upcoming National Day.

The High Commission expressed gratitude for the generous contribution and commended the couple’s gesture of solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka during a challenging time.
