Two fifth-grade students of an international school in Asgiriya, Kandy were hospitalised yesterday after a ceiling fan collapsed on them.
The injured students were admitted to the General Hospital, Kandy.
Hospital sources said that the eye of one student and the head of the other student were injured following the incident.
The incident occurred during school yesterday. The parents claimed that the ceiling fan was tangled with its electricity wires and swung during the past few days.
Even though the school administration was informed about the risk to children, no one had taken action to repair the fan.
The parents also claimed that the monthly fee of the school had also been increased to Rs. 5,000, and even the photocopy charges had been increased.

School administration should be held responsible for all compensation

Extremely negligent attitude by the school authorities, heinously risking the lives of small children. This is an accident that was waiting to happen. If the fan was dangling by its wires the school authorities should not have allowed the children to enter the roo. Those responsible must be brought to justice.
Prosecute those Involved to the Maximum Saturday, 23 March 2024 01:08 PM
Take severe action on the staff involved on this unacceptable tragedy. The authorities must use the full force of the law to prosecute these staff who could see it will result in a tragedy. After their sentences are served, either sack them or a 30 to 40% paycut to be handed. Must send a deterrent message to these school administrators not following common sense and established protocols.
