Two Kelani Valley train services suspended due to lack of power set

Colombo, July 1 (Daily Mirror) - The Railway Department has announced the cancellation of two train services operating on the Kelani Valley line from today until further notice due to the unavailability of a power set required for operations.

Sri Lanka Railway Station Master's Association General Secretary Kasun Chamara Jayasekara said, the affected services include the train departing from Colombo Fort to Avissawella at 4.00 p.m. and the train operating from Avissawella to Colombo Fort at 5.55 a.m.

He said the decision was taken as a temporary measure until the required rolling stock becomes available for service.

The latest cancellations have added to growing concerns among commuters over the increasing frequency of train service disruptions. Passengers have expressed frustration over the repeated cancellations and delays, which have become a recurring issue in recent months, causing significant inconvenience to daily commuters.

Railway trade unions and passengers have previously called on authorities to address operational shortcomings and ensure the uninterrupted operation of essential public transport services.
