Tripitaka will be accessible to whole world through internet: Minister

The Sambuddha Jayanti Tripitaka book series, which has been declared a National Heritage will be written in English, published on the internet and then printed, Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Minister Vidura Wickramanayake said.

He said the decision was taken following the request of the Most Venerable Maha Sangha at a meeting at the Ministry.

This decision has been taken for the sake of all parties of lay clergy who are interested in studying the Tripitaka locally and internationally, with the aim of spreading Buddhism throughout the world.

This work is to be done after obtaining the advice and approval of the Venerable Mahanayakes.

In order to successfully carry out this work, three boards should be appointed: a Supreme Board, a Supervisory Board and a  Executive Board, and the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers should also be obtained, Minister Wickramanayake added. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
