Trinity College Kandy achieved an unprecedented double win over Royal College Colombo, recording a six wicket win and qualifying for the semi-final of the Under 19 Inter-School Tier 1 school cricket tournament at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy.
Trinity had already beaten Royal once this season at Reid Avenue, for the first time in their 130-year cricketing history.
Royal were shot out for 114 in their first innings and despite doing slightly better in the second innings, scoring 229, they left the Trinitians with a target of 149, which they reached for the loss of just four wickets.
Royal 114 and 229 in 59 overs (Ovin Ambanpola 48 not out, Uvindu Weerasekera 42, Disas Savindu 25, Kaveen Gamage 4 for 81, Tharana Wimaladharma 2 for 49, Dinuka Tennekoon 2 for 71)
Trinity 195 and 150 for 4 in 26.3 overs (Dinusha Peiris 38, Vathila Udara 38 not out, Rahal Amarasinghe 26)
