Train services likely to be disrupted amid planned trade union action

Colombo, June 9 (Daily Mirror) - Railway services are expected to face major disruption tomorrow due to planned trade union action by railway controllers, the Sri Lanka Railway Controllers’ Union (SLRCU) said.

Association Secretary Rukmal Bandara, said that night trains will be operated to complete their journeys. However, he noted that all trains scheduled to begin morning services will not report for duty.

He warned that the action will significantly affect normal railway operations across the country.

Bandara also urged the Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Union (SLRSMU) not to support what he described as “illegal methods” in train operations during the trade union action period.

Authorities are expected to announce further updates on service adjustments and possible contingency plans.
