Train services increased to 38 during festive season

Due to the increase in commuters, the Railways Department has assigned 38 additional train services to operate during the festive season.

Additional Railway General Manager Operations V.S. Polwattage said priority had been given to operating long-distance train services over short-distance operations.

Other than the special trains, long-distance train services have been scheduled to operate as usual, he said.

"Several short-distance train services had been cancelled, and the staff assigned to the long-distance and special train service operations. Therefore, there is a possibility of several office transportation services being cancelled. The cancellation of short-distance travel had been done with prior approval," Polwattage said.

"Considering the increase of commuters in the long-distance services, the department decided to attach more compartments according to the requirement," he added. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
