Following the damage caused by the derailment of a train on the coastal line, the Railways Department said the damaged track cannot be repaired today.
The Railway Control Room said more than 1,000 concrete sleepers have been damaged due to the derailment.
All the damaged sleepers need to be replaced and this cannot be done in a single day. Therefore, operations along the coastal line will be delayed since only one line is operational.
The train plying from Maho to Colombo Fort and Moratuwa derailed this morning at the Kollupitiya station. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

It is always the long distance trains that derail. Is speed an issue,?
