Trade union professionals meet to discuss today

The Federation of Trade Unions of Professionals (FTUP) including the ports, fuel, water and electricity is to have a discussion today to get rid of unfair taxes implemented by the government.

The Progressive Trade Union Secretary Shyamal Sumanaratne said the discussion is scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm today with the participation of all trade unions in the country.

The government should withdraw or abolish the decision taken to increase the PAYE tax, he said.

"If the government does not listen to us, stern action will be taken to launch trade union action. If we launch trade union action, it would be a massive and continual one, and it will directly affect the whole system in the country," Sumanaratne said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
