Thundershowers after 2 pm today: Met. Dept.

The National Meteorological Center today predicted that thundershowers would occur at several places over most parts of the island after 2 pm.

It said heavy rains above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Rains may occur in the Eastern Province and in coastal areas of the Southern Province during the morning too.

Therefore, the public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers, it said.

Meanwhile, thundershowers would occur at several places in the sea areas around the island. The winds would be north-easterly to easterly over the sea area around the island, and wind speed would be a maximum of 30 kmph, according to the department forecast.

The sea areas around the island will experience slight to moderately strong winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers, it said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
