Even though certain parties claimed that they had solutions and answers for the country's issues avoided at the time they were needed, Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.
After the opening of a campaign office in the Wahakula area of Ruwanwella, he said certain political parties claimed that they had solutions for the country's issues but did not do anything to address the issues.
“Some people fish in troubled waters. It is very easy to criticize, but running a Government is not such an easy task,” he said.
“Though the country is in a critical situation, it is questionable whether the country needs an election. If the election comes lawfully, the members of our party are strong enough even to contest individually without using any parties.
“We are not concerned about the election. We do not want the parties or colours to appoint a good representative for the village. But certain people are trying to make use of the election controversy for their ulterior motives.
"At the time when the Prime Minister resigned on May 9, the former President invited any of the parties for which they had solutions and answers to come forward to take over the Government. But unfortunately, no party had come forward to take over the Government.
“However, they are not discussing solutions to the country's problems. Fortunately, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has taken over the country. If not, the country would still have been in a dire situation.
"President Wickremesinghe has managed to bring stability to the urgent issues," State Minister Siyambalapitiya said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
