Ruwanwella, Jan. 24 (Daily Mirror)- The government is considering issuing the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) with the assistance of the Department for Registration of Persons, using the National Identity Card (NIC) numbers, State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.
The Minister said this decision was taken at a meeting to provide the public with the TIN very easily while the normal procedure to obtain the TIN is still in progress.
He told reporters in Ruwanwella that the TIN will be issued using the database of the 15 million of the 18 year-olds in the country.
The Minister said a complete database on state revenue could be created after the introduction of the digital identity card in the future.

This is a dicision in the right direction to avoid unnecessary rush by mostly senior citizens to obtain their TIN numbers using already available NIC numbers .

a time saving idea especially for those depending on public transport and difficulty in meeting GS on appointed date and time except for those living close to his office. In the event of a change of address in the ID the current address should be accepted to save time or an area police station frank on applicant's personal letter confirming residential address.

It took some time for my little brain the size of a 'siyambala seed" to understand no separate TIN number is required when everyone has a unique NIC number.

Why don't they use the NIC number for taxation purposes? What is the need for a separate number?

This is another excellent method to get things done by the government, just like the QR Code initiated during the tougher times. Well done.

Does RAJAPAKSHA FAMILY have TIN?? Please ensure this first before you expect public to pay tax?

What a comedy and confusion regarding this tin number. You are requesting every one over 18 to have a tin number. You are creating a database full of garbage by this. A tin number should be opened by his/her place of work if they entitled for tax reduction. Over 60% of the public are unemployed.

they have issued the same number for many... with your excellent massive brain we will become Singapore soon...

TIN number linking to the NIC should have been the first option which was at one's finger tips how come you have missed this. Sometimes even the educated have to be sent to school to refresh the fundamentals of ABC as human frality is that at some point with age most suffer from amnesia!!!
