Supreme Court conducts fully digital, paperless 735 Attorneys-at-Law oath ceremony

Colombo, June 27 (Daily Mirror) - The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka successfully conducted a fully digital, paperless Attorneys-at-Law oath ceremony, marking another significant milestone in the ongoing

digital transformation of Sri Lanka's judicial sector.

As the sole authority responsible for the enrolment of Attorneys-at-Law in Sri Lanka, the Supreme Court enrolled and admitted 735 Attorneys-at-Law to the Bar through a completely paperless process at this ceremony. This initiative forms part of the Supreme Court's broader

commitment to modernising judicial administration through the implementation of innovative digital technologies, in line with the vision of Chief Justice, Preethi Padman Surasena, to accelerate the digital transformation of the Judiciary.

A key feature of the ceremony was the successful implementation of digital signatures, enabling Attorneys-at-Law to securely execute and authenticate all required documentation electronically.

The Supreme Court expresses its sincere appreciation to LankaSign, Sri Lanka's

authorised Certification Service Provider recognised by the National Certification Authority to issue legally valid digital signatures under the Electronic Transactions Act, for its valuable

technical assistance and dedicated support, which contributed significantly to the successful implementation of the fully paperless enrolment process.

By eliminating the need for physical documentation, the Supreme Court saved nearly 15,000 sheets of paper during this single enrolment ceremony.

The successful implementation of the paperless Attorneys-at-Law oath ceremony also marks another important milestone in the ongoing implementation of the E-Courts Project, which is transforming the administration of justice through the introduction of digital technologies

across the Sri Lankan Judiciary. As part of this continuing initiative, the Court of Appeal has already commenced its e-Filing system, enabling the electronic filing of cases and court documents.

The Commercial High Court is scheduled to commence e-Filing next week, reflecting the Judiciary's continued commitment to expanding digital court services across all levels of the court system.
