Colombo, May 6 (Daily Mirror) - The Supreme Court today affirmed the death sentences imposed on four convicts on death row over the rape and murder of Sivaloganathan Vidya.

Accordingly, the Supreme Court five-judge-bench headed by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena decided to dismiss the appeal petitions filed by four convicts including Mahalingam Shashikumar alias Swiss Kumar.

They were convicted and sentenced to death by the Jaffna High Court Trial-at-Bar on September 27, 2015 for the murder of Sivaloganathan Vidya of Punguduthivu.

This verdict is historical and a dire warning to the criminal elements of the Tamil diaspora. UNP's former Tamil Member of Parliament tried to help the accused when the convict was in police custody.
