Sugeeshwara Bandara further remanded

Colombo, July 1 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena  today further remanded Sugeeshwara Bandara, leader of the Nava Janatha Peramuna and former private secretary to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, till July 8 over allegations that he received salaries for two positions under the Presidential expenditure vote.

The Magistrate further directed that the bail application filed on behalf of the suspect by President's Counsel Nalinda Indatissa be taken up on July 8, when the court will deliver its order on the application.

The CCIB informed court that the investigation was launched following a complaint received on June 12, 2026. Based on the findings of the inquiry, the suspect was arrested and produced before court.

Investigators alleged that in 2022, while serving as the former President's private secretary, the suspect simultaneously functioned as a Project Director at the Presidential Secretariat and received salaries for both positions under the Presidential expenditure vote.

The CCIB further informed court that information has also surfaced alleging that the suspect misused government vehicles and deployed government employees for political activities while holding those positions. Investigations into these allegations are currently under way.
