SriLankan Airlines unveiled new initiatives to strengthen air connectivity between India and Sri Lanka at a press conference in Delhi alongside SATTE 2026, South Asia’s leading travel and tourism exhibition. The airline also showcased new destinations and engaged with Indian media to raise awareness in its largest market.
With nearly 90 weekly flights between the two countries, India accounts for almost 30% of SriLankan’s total passenger traffic and 23% of all visitors to Sri Lanka. In 2026, the airline plans to increase its weekly India services, currently covering Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kochi, Trivandrum, Madurai, and Tiruchirappalli.
Ahmedabad will soon become SriLankan’s tenth Indian destination, helping the airline serve six of India’s eight major metropolitan hubs. These expansions are expected to boost Indian passenger traffic across the airline’s network by up to 12% this year.
“SriLankan Airlines connects India to Sri Lanka and beyond, offering seamless travel to the Middle East, Maldives, Far East, Europe, and Australia via Colombo,” said Dimuthu Tennakoon, Head of Commercial.
The airline collaborates with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and other partners to promote the island as a vibrant destination for festivals, cuisine, wellness, beaches, wildlife, history, and spirituality. Its award-winning Ramayana Trail campaign encourages Indian travellers to explore sites inspired by the legendary epic.
About 60% of Indian bookings are made through travel partners and online agents, with the rest through SriLankan’s direct channels. For bookings, visit www.srilankan.com
