Sri Lankan student wins bronze at Young Chef Olympiad 2026

Colombo, February 08 (Daily Mirror) - Student chef Rumira Piyasiri, who represented Sri Lanka at the 12th Young Chef Olympiad (YCO) 2026 held in India, won the bronze medal and arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport this morning (8).

Recognised as the world’s largest global culinary competition for student chefs, the event was organised by the International Institute of Hotel Management, India, together with the International Hospitality Council, London. The competition was held in Kolkata, India, from February 1 to 6, with the participation of competitors from 50 countries.

Lecturer Emeshika de Silva accompanied Rumira Piyasiri to India as mentor and guide during the competition. They arrived in Sri Lanka at 6.50 a.m. on February 8 from New Delhi on Indian Airlines flight AI-277.

The Principal of the Colombo Academy of Hospitality Management, affiliated to SLIIT, along with a group of administrators and lecturers, and Rumira Piyasiri’s parents, were present at the airport to warmly welcome the medal winner on arrival.
