Sri Lankan delegation meets Rahul Gandhi

Colombo, Feb. 4 (Daily Mirror) - Ven. Udugama Sarananda Thera, the Chief Incumbent of Sri Shasanalankararamaya Purana Maha Viharaya (Udugama Maha Viharaya), together with the Custodian Nilames of the Viharaya, met with Indian Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi today to convey their gratitude in remembrance of the late Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi.

In 1976, Indira Gandhi gifted a sacred Bo sapling of the Sri Maha Bodhiya to Udugama Maha Viharaya, an act that continues to hold profound spiritual and historical significance.

As the year 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of this gift, the delegation presented Rahul Gandhi with a model of the Jayasiri Maha Bodhiya in commemoration of this meaningful milestone and enduring friendship.
