Sri Lanka thanks Pakistan for reconsidering T20 WC decision

Sri Lanka has expressed its appreciation to Pakistan for reconsidering its decision regarding the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup 2026 following three days of diplomatic discussions between the two countries.

According to a statement issued by Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, retired Major General Faheem Ul Aziz, informed Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath that Pakistan had initially decided not to participate in its 2026 T20 World Cup match against India.

However, at Sri Lanka’s request, Pakistan has now agreed to set aside differences and take part in the fixture.

The High Commissioner also commended Sri Lanka’s mediation efforts in helping resolve the issue. These remarks were made during a meeting with Minister Herath at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today (10 February), ahead of the conclusion of his tenure in Sri Lanka.

Minister Vijitha Herath expressed Sri Lanka’s thanks for the High Commissioner’s prompt response and cooperation during the three days of diplomatic talks and telephone discussions that led to the decision.
