Colombo, March 11 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka should play a lead role in ensuring the security of the Indian Ocean in the wake of the conflict in the Middle East by using the Colombo Security Conclave, former foreign affairs minister G.L. Peiris said today.

"Sri Lanka should work with Colombo Security Conclave member states, namely the Maldives, Mauritius and Bangladesh," Professor Peris told a joint opposition media conference.

He said the present government should follow the examples of former Sri Lankan heads of States such as Late Sirimavo Bandaranaike, J.R. Jayewardene, R. Premadasa and Ranil Wickremesinghe who have made Sri Lanka an important player in international affairs.

GL, you live in a dream world man. Where is your brain. SLK has not got the means, naval forces to contribute to so called security of the ocean. We cannot even defend our own borders. Only a few days ago, a clown called Sajith was demanded answers to the question why the SLK government did not know the movements of the US submarine that torpedoed. What does he or you think SLK navy's capabilities? We are not on par with US or any Western nation, India, Russia or China. We are just a poor third world country living on the generosity of foreign handouts, trying to feed the poor. So keep your dreams to yourself, and stop exciting our gullible public.
