Sri Lanka invites overseas and foreign contributions for disaster relief

The government has announced that Sri Lankans residing overseas and foreign nationals can contribute to relief efforts for those affected by the ongoing disaster situation in the country.

The President's Media Division said that designated bank account details are available at Sri Lankan diplomatic missions abroad and at foreign missions based in Sri Lanka. To facilitate donations, two separate accounts have been established to accept contributions in both local currency and US Dollars.

This information was shared during a discussion today with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath, together with foreign ambassadors based in Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan ambassadors serving overseas.

Please ask all foreign missions and Sri Lankan embassies/ high commissions to create some online donation systems so that Lankans abroad can make some donations: even if little bit contribution by more than 3 million Lankans could make a big impact

SL should find a solution to these kind of tragedies, this is not the first time these kind of things happen SL. Government and all concerned should find a solution, prevention methods... It will be really nice is SL all over the world get together and help, instead of begging from foreigners... Ensure to understand why this happens and solved the issue when flooding decrease
