Colombo Dec 6 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka has been acclaimed as one of the top five fastest-growing tourism destinations for the year 2024 by the travel guide 'Travel Off Path'.

The accolade comes as the country continues to captivate global travelers with its exotic landscapes, warm climate, rich cultural heritage, and delectable cuisine.

According to 'Travel Off Path,' Sri Lanka has consistently drawn visitors throughout 2023, with a notable surge in tourists from the United States, constituting one of the largest visitor groups. Despite experiencing civil unrest in recent years, the travel guide points out that the situation is gradually stabilizing, earning Sri Lanka a Level 2 ranking from the US Department of State—a factor likely to contribute to its rising popularity in 2024.

The travel guide's prediction is based on data analysis by SEO specialist SALT agency, which identified Sri Lanka as a standout destination poised for substantial growth in the coming year. The recognition places Sri Lanka alongside four other countries—Tunisia, Mexico, Morocco, and the Dominican Republic—as part of 'Travel Off Path's' carefully curated list.

Highlighting Sri Lanka's appeal, the travel guide notes its consistent ranking as one of the most cost-effective locations for digital nomads. Emphasizing the country's unique offerings, it encourages travelers to experience a leisurely beachside lifestyle infused with abundant cultural experiences and natural wonders.

'Travel Off Path' is renowned as a world-leading travel news source, delivering timely and relevant updates for global travelers. Boasting a readership of six million visitors per month and expanding, the platform is headquartered in Dubai, UAE, and the USA, with remote teams distributed across the globe.

Its been so for many many years but if you keep killing your jumbos one of its finest attractions won't be so for long..What a shame we can't value what has been given for free by the gods while spending time on issues like climate control a popular topic in international circles

Please extend the Palaly airport runway to further improve tourism to Sri Lanka. Forget politics. Think of Sri Lanka.

This has been a reoccurring statement by its minister. Just to pleased the public. It should reflect some where. If so reduce the cost of lving.

This proves that Harin Fernando and tourism ministry is working hard to reach out to the world. We won't get anywhere unless we don't do aggressive marketing for tourism.

Aggressive marketing means having drinks with an alleged rapist and post the pictures on the Internet to lure Australian female tourists?

    Lionel Wednesday, 06 December 2023 12:59 PM

SL has missed a trick in getting the best from tourism and it is not tourist friendly. It can vastly improve its facilities and services for tourists. To start, tourists struggle to buy a railway tkt fron Fort Railway station which is a filthy dilapidated place; not more than a cattle shed. Its tkt counters have rude staff who have no English knowledge, any manners or communication skills. All over SL, tourists do not have decent toilet facilities. Entrance fees for tourists are massive compared to locals. Visa fees are huge. The country is full of scammers. Hotel prices are so high compared to other South Asian countries. Everyday, boasting about beating drums and showing Kandyan dances will not cut. Today tourists are more knowledgeable and know exactly where to go, how to go and where to stay. The country needs to do a hell lot more. Country's over staffed useless tourism authorities and Ministers have no clue.

Show the numbers, fastest growth from a small base is nothing in maths. The difference of arrivals in India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Maldives etc is huge compared to Lankan numbers. A few million over SL

    Chryshan Wednesday, 06 December 2023 01:02 PM

It's great news. Hope next year elections will be free of violence so that tourism won't get affected.

These are statements made by mugs, for mugs Wednesday, 06 December 2023 01:07 PM

Once you hit rock bottom any growth is amplified a million times and looks fantastic on paper. Does anyone think tourism alone will save Sri Lanka?

    Gune Wednesday, 06 December 2023 01:08 PM

How about those Tourism staff do something good for tourists, like scrapping expensive visa fees, and improving facilities for tourists? Teaching staff manning places frequented by tourists with decent English speaking skills and good customer service will help too. Most SL towns are dead by 7:30pm and they don't even have a place to have a beer and relax for a decent price. Has anyone been to some other South Asian countries and seen how they do it?

Rip Winkle Wednesday, 06 December 2023 01:21 PM

TravelOffPath is a small and insignificant website.

    Ram Wednesday, 06 December 2023 02:14 PM

This is hard to believe with violation of human rights and so much corruption everywhere

if you want to increase income, increase your knowledge of ENGLISH, Learn ARABIC/FRENCH/HINDI/URUDU/SPANISH/CHINEESE/JAPANEESE.

    Eper Wednesday, 06 December 2023 04:05 PM

We should protect our tourism industry by providing a safe and economical destination and make use of the valuable dollars earned and thus make an end to foreign loans. If tourists are harassed, the culprits should be dealt severely

    ChildOfGod Wednesday, 06 December 2023 04:21 PM

Lionel, I believe all what you make mention in your comment, but then again nomad tourists visit, the numbers are counted to make up the total arrivals. What a SHOW of hitting a tin about the number of visitors coming into the Country, while the MASSES are suffering hardships, unable to have their basic daily needs met, health system in a MESS etc etc. LORD watch over the MASSES in the Country and PULL them out of their SUFFERING, I ask this in the name of JESUS. Amen

Faith stifles all thinking Thursday, 07 December 2023 06:12 AM

@Childofgod, The lord (or gods) does not watch over the masses. Even if they watch over the masses they provide nothing. The masses are currently undergoing tremendous hardship and are struggling to survive. This is foolish talk that is designed to fool people into a false sense of expectation. Bread is baked in a bakery by skilled bakers and does not simply fall from the sky!

    ChildOfGod Thursday, 07 December 2023 04:27 PM

Faithstifle, you seem to be totally unaware of the ONE

    Observer Thursday, 07 December 2023 06:14 PM

Even 2118, 2019 and 2020 we heard the same boasting. Once again!!!!!
