Colombo, Dec. 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Scout Association (SLSA) has stepped up to support communities affected by the recent Ditwah cyclone, distributing school books to 1,400 Scouts, shoes to 1,000 Scouts, and providing financial assistance to 21 Scout Leaders for home repairs and electricity restoration. Immediately after the cyclone, over 15,000 families received essential items, including dry rations, cleaning supplies, sanitary products, clothing, and blankets.
The SLSA mobilized national and district-level resources to assist affected families and Scouts across the country. These efforts were supported by contributions from the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), the Maldives Scout Association, Past S. Thomas’ Prep School Scouts, Past Mahajana College Scouts, and numerous individuals and well-wishers.
Scouts, together with Vocational Training Authority (VTEC) students, also helped repair household electricity connections, mobile phones, and three-wheelers. The estimated value of dry rations collected by Scouts from their neighborhoods exceeded Rs. 35 million.
Under the guidance of Chief Commissioner Attorney-at-Law Janaprith Fernando, the National Headquarters and District Scout Associations coordinated the ongoing relief efforts. Trained Scout Leaders worked closely with officers from the Disaster Management Centre to ensure effective assistance during the crisis.
The SLSA said it remains committed to serving communities in times of need and will continue its relief and rehabilitation initiatives to support sustainable recovery for those affected by the Ditwah cyclone.
