Colombo Dec 8 (Daily Mirror) - A total of 1,877 naval personnel, comprising both senior and junior sailors, have been promoted to their next rank, effective from December 9th, in commemoration of the 73rd Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy.
The promotions were endorsed by Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, the Commander of the Navy.
Accordingly, 489, 264, 625 and 499 senior and junior sailors have been elevated to the ranks of Ordinary Seaman, Able Seaman, Leading Seaman and Chief Petty Officer, respectively.

This SL system is hilarious. Why do we have automatic promotions? Shouldn't the promotions be based on need and merit? Do we need to promote people just because they joined public service and stay there? No wonder SL is printing money to pay wages of millions of public servants.

What has happened to that wonderful navy officer who was elevated to the higher position just after 6 months of joining the navy and then on a scholarship going to UK to study and enhance training with the British navy.
