Spurious drugs smuggled to Sri Lanka, claims former Puducherry Chief Minister

The Hindu - Former Chief Minister and Congress leader V. Narayanasamy has claimed that spurious drugs manufactured in Puducherry were even “smuggled” to Sri Lanka.

Addressing a press conference in Puducherry, he said the drugs manufactured illegally in the Union Territory were smuggled to the Island nation. The ongoing CBI-probe should cover smuggling of medicines to Sri Lanka also, he said.

Reiterating the charge of the involvement of ruling party members in the illegal drug business, he said all those involved would be exposed if the Congress returned to power in the coming Assembly polls.

“The ruling party members and more officials are involved in the case. Presently, the investigation is progressing at a slow pace. We will certainly bring all the culprits to book after the Congress returns to power. The Congress feels the CBI investigation should be monitored by a sitting judge,” he said.

The former Chief Minister also flayed the decision of the Central government to replace Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act with the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin). The Congress party would oppose the decision in all possible manner, he added.
