Special visa relief for foreigners in Sri Lanka hit by adverse weather

The Immigration and Emigration Department has announced a series of special visa facilitation measures to assist foreign nationals impacted by the adverse weather conditions currently affecting Sri Lanka.

According to the Department, foreigners who were scheduled to leave the country on or after 28 November but were unable to travel due to flight cancellations or weather-related disruptions will be exempted from visa extension fees and overstay penalties. Officials stated that these provisions are intended to support travelers who faced unavoidable delays beyond their control.

Additionally, holders of short-term Tourist or Business Visas as well as Residence Visas will receive a seven-day grace period to complete their required visa extension procedures.

Tourist visa extensions can be processed through the Department’s official online portal: https://eservices.immigration.gov.lk/vs/login.php
