Two Chinese nationals arrested at BIA over alleged Port City gang clash killing

Two Chinese nationals accused of killing a member of a rival gang during a clash between two Chinese groups at the Colombo Port City were arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while attempting to flee the country.

The suspects, aged 34 and 38, were arrested by officers of the Airport Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the departure terminal on Thursday (23) afternoon and were later handed over to the Colombo Port Police.

The two men had arrived at the Katunayake Airport at around 4.30 p.m. to board Air India flight AI-2275 bound for Singapore via Mumbai, India. They had reportedly purchased air tickets with Singapore as their final destination.

Airport CID officers, acting on intelligence received regarding their attempted departure, carried out surveillance operations at the departure terminal and arrested the two suspects.

Police said further investigations are being conducted by the Colombo Port Police.
