Special programme introduced to provide fuel for agricultural activities

Colombo, March 16 (Daily Mirror) - The government has introduced a special mechanism to issue fuel required for famers for their agricultural activities, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation said today.

The Ministry said while harvesting for the 2025/26 Maha season is still underway in certain areas, land preparation for the 2026 Yala season paddy cultivation has already commenced in others.

The Ministry said fuel quantities recommended by the Department of Agrarian Development will be issued to farmers at the filling station closest to their cultivation land.

It said in a statement that the information regarding farmers requiring fuel for harvesting or land preparation will be shared with the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) via the Department of Agrarian Development's database.
