Speaker gave no orders on Parliament staff using drugs, alcohol, cigarettes: Parliamentary Secretariat

Colombo, Jan. 12 (Daily Mirror) - The Parliamentary Secretariat has denied meida reports under the headline “Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne has decided to take strict action regarding a group of employees using drugs, alcohol and cigarettes within the Parliamentary premises”.

The Parliamentary Secretariat said that the Speaker has informed that the news being circulated in the media under the headline is completely baseless and untrue.

The Parliamentary Secretariat states that Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne has never instructed any official of the Parliament of Sri Lanka to take strict action against such groups of employees.

The Secretariat further emphasised that reports claiming the Speaker issued such instructions after receiving information that certain employees, including those in the catering division, were secretly using alcohol, drugs and cigarettes are also false.

Accordingly, media reports alleging that the Speaker blamed parliamentary officials for allowing such situations to develop are entirely baseless and untrue.

Speaker is in a difficult situation. Can't say yes he did or no he didn't as both are seen as the wrong answer to some people.

It's a well known fact most politicians and their kids use drugs, only civilians have laws enforced on them

Whether parliamentary employees use drugs, alcohol and cigarettes within the parliamentary premises remains to be seen. What is certain, however, is that members of parliament do so.
