Padiyatalawa, May 5 (Daily Miror) - The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Padiyatalawa Police and a soldier's wife were seriously injured after an army soldier attacked them with a pestle after he discovered his wife's affair with the OIC.

Police said the OIC was admitted to the Badulla Teaching Hospital, while the woman was taken to the Mahiyangana Hospital for treatment.

The injured 52-year-old Chief Inspector of Police, a resident of Bibila, is currently receiving intensive care at the Badulla Teaching Hospital.

It was reported that the OIC had been involved in an affair with the soldier's wife for some time. When the OIC visited the woman's house one night while the soldier was away, the soldier, who had secretly returned home, had found his wife with the OIC and subsequently had attacked them.

It might be time to change the draconian outdated divorce laws and bring them into line with liberal Western countries. If there is agreement, divorce should take place immediately, otherwise after a year of separation without either party being found guilty. The judge must grant the divorce and can only decide on financial matters and in the area of child welfare.

I disagree with you Sockrates, we don't want your western culture in our country. Divorce should be the last option. Third party should mediate and resolve matrimonial issues. There should be extended family help to prevent a Divorce especially when the couple has children. Divorce is only to be applied only when all other avenues have failed.

Ranil's Police Officers are nasty characters. Since RW joined with nasty culprits of SLPP he too lost his good image. All these nasty Police Officers supports nasty Mahinda Rajapakshes. This is the secret.

Yes, I too agree with you. Day by day we are hearing more disgusting stories about the our police department and its service. Public has loosing the confidence about the police service as instead of protecting and server the law they ( police officers) braking law without any fear .This has happened because of the present regime back of the wrong doing police officers. We are loose the confidence regarding the political powers as its seems both misuses the power which we have handed over to them

Hon. President Ranil Wickramasinghe, the way the country is running is not a good sign. This Police Officer is a strong hold of Mahinda Rajapakshe, believe me. He will deserve the right punishment from the public soon.

@ Sokrates; unlike you who I see spending all waking hours ranting nonsense in the Daily Mirror, most of us are professionals either in Sri Lanka or in Western countries. The laws governing divorce are a lot similar in both Sri Lanka and the English speaking West. The difference being in the implementation of the laws due to strong cultural differences between the East and the WEST. In Sri Lanka we try our best to preserve the marriages as practically as possible to protect the children from being growing up without a proper family unit whereas in the West consequences for the children are completely ignored , resulting in an unstable society. For example , murders being committed by children in the age group of 10 to18 is something unheard of in Sri Lanka, but check and see how many killings are being perpetrated by school children in the West. In London children commit more street murders than the adults and the majority of these children come from broken homes.

Now off to the courts for a divorce Sunday, 05 May 2024 04:08 PM

The soldier must have said "Oh, I see. You are having an affair". The fact of the matter is this is called infidelity. This should not have happened and the wife should have called it quits. She wanted the best of both worlds. The got what they deserved!

    WTF is a pestle?

    Ganesh Monday, 06 May 2024 02:28 AM

There is something called a dictionary. In case you don’t have one a pestle is a grinding stone like your Miris Gal.

    Jeanne Monday, 06 May 2024 03:56 AM

Google it. And while you're there, you can google this other new word "ignoramus" and "lazy". That describes you.

    Cherath Monday, 06 May 2024 06:57 PM

Ganesh - I doubt the soldier used a pestle to attack the sex sick OIC. I suspect its actually a PISTOL, mistakenly scripted by the reporter as pestle. Otherwise, why in the world would this soldier opt for a pestel for want of a better weapon! Also, please don't put down a fellow subscriber so harshly to make your point. Than you!

    Cherath Monday, 06 May 2024 07:00 PM

Jeane - Must you, should you, be so sharp and offensive and insulting to drive home your point of view? Joy was simply asking a question. What is wrong in that?
