Six arrested with over 850kg of illegal shark meat in Wennappuwa

Colombo, January 6 (Daily Mirror) - Six fishermen were arrested after Sri Lanka Coast Guard officers seized more than 850 kilograms of illegally harvested shark meat during a special search operation at the Wellamankara fishery harbour in Wennappuwa early this morning (06 January).

The Coast Guard said the illegal catch was discovered concealed inside a multi-day fishing vessel during the operation.

The suspects, along with the seized shark meat and the fishing vessel, were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector’s Office in Wellamankara for further investigations and legal action.
