Several areas brace for 100 mm of rain

Colombo, June 5 (Daily Mirror) - Heavy rainfall of about 100 mm is expected at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts today, the Department of Meteorology said.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts, while a few showers are likely in the Anuradhapura District.

Strong winds of 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Fairly strong winds of 30-40 kmph may prevail in other parts of the island.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
