School van monthly charges to reduce between 5% to 8% from May 1

All Ceylon Inter District School Children's Transport Services Association said today that the monthly charges for school vans will be reduced by May 1.

Association president N.M.K. Harischandra Padmasiri said the decision was taken in light of the recent fuel price reduction.

"Accordingly, the charges will be reduced by between 5% to 8%, and with the reduction will be a relief for the parents to some extent," he said.

However, the All Ceylon Inter Provincial School Children's Transport Services Association and the All Island School Transport Association said they are unable to reduce the monthly charges of the school vans at this time.

They demand the government to increase the fuel quota, reduce the revenue license charges and also reduce the prices of spare parts to provide relief for the parents. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
