School children to get Rs.3,000 vouchers to buy footware: Minister

Vouchers worth Rs. 3,000 will be awarded to 800,000 school children in the next two weeks to buy footware, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.

He said this allowance will be given to the school children undergoing economic difficulties and will be increased in the coming year.

Complete transformational changes in education will come into effect from 2024, the minister added. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

A fool who does not understand the priorities. Just allow any footwear at this moment as we are stuggling as a nation. Instead focus on giving better education. Also imvest that money for importing medicine or at least give some food for children.

It is a nice gesture to give Rs3000 to low income families but from where is the govt going to get the money?.Has to raise taxes or print money or cut expenditure from other source because the govt does not have income only spends. And printing money is inflationary.Proper way is to increase production by stimulating the economy which will lead to increased taxes for the govt.Any govt can print money and spend, nothing great in that

Big monet for the footware companies. 2.4 billion Rs income for these companies. They will not be able to supply footware to this many students immediately. This is totally unacceptable way of spending tax money These student pay Rs 5000 per month for tuition masters and wear fancy shoes already. So there was no real need except to boost income for the footware companies.
