Colombo, Feb 23 (Daily Mirror) - Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, as a member of the Constitutional Council (CC), has sought to retain a private lawyer instead of the Attorney General in the case in which the CC’s rejection of the nomination of Appeal Court President Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne as a judge of the Supreme Court has been challenged.
The CC which met last Monday discussed the matter. Mr. Premadasa sought to retain a private lawyer to intervene in the case.
The CC will meet again next Monday to take a final decision in this regard.
Mr. Premadasa has taken such a decision against the backdrop of the Attorney General informing the Supreme Court that the CC’s rejection of the appointment was not based on a collective decision.
A Fundamental Rights petition filed challenging the CC’s decision to reject Justice Karunaratne’s name has now been taken up for hearing .

Doubtful as he was the legal advisor in the Defence Ministry under Gota. He is good but not for Sajith.

Day dreams do not materialise. His popularity on the decline. Hiring ex forces guys to be used as body guards. Don't tell me
Attorney General is not acting for the CC but for the President Friday, 23 February 2024 12:49 PM
Attorney General is not trustworthy. He is looking for future job in the Supreme Court. Ranil must continually be blocked, otherwise Ranil or UNP supporters will get into Supreme Court. At the end of the year, no more Ranil.

Sajith was never a team player. His megalomania is too much for him to be part of a team. I remember Sajith as a fresh MP walking out of a meeting of MPs and officials convened to discuss development projects for Hambantota saying he did not want government funds but would get big companies to sponsor his projects. As a result many of projects initiated by him were either still born or were poorly conceived and had to be salvaged by government intervention. If he ever becomes president such one-man (of course behind the scenes one-woman,) governance would spell disaster.

The Attorney General who has not been able to present a single bill to the Parliament which has not violated the constitution, has no right to give any opinion on CC to the courts. The worst AG ever!
