Parliament, Dec.6 (Daily Mirror) - A verbal clash between Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage, where both hurled allegations at each other, rocked Parliament today.

The argument heated up when MP Aluthgamage said an audit report had revealed that a sum of Rs. 10 billion has been misused during Premadasa’s tenure as Minister of Housing and Cultural Affairs.

“A sum of Rs. 10 billion has been misused from the Central Cultural Fund while state funds have been used to pay salaries for the ten security officers attached to the saloon owned by the Opposition Leaders' wife. The Minister of Cultural Affairs should make a statement on this matter,” the MP said.

Also, the MP said Premadasa has released Rs 1.6 million to repair Sirikotha during his time as the Minister.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, who responded alleged that millions have been used from the Central Cultural Fund in 2011 for a cycle race and for the swearing in ceremony of the then President.

“I will resign from my post if the allegations against me are proved,” Premadasa said.

Althgamage came into the well at this time calling Premadasa to resign.

Meanwhile, Minister of Cultural Affairs Vidura Wickramanayake at this time revealed that certain amounts have been spent from the Central Cultural Fund without proper approval of its board of management.

The cross-talk continued from time to time during the committee stage debate on the budget yesterday with Althugamage making the allegations and SJB MPs saying Premadasa has been cleared of all charges.

SJB MP S.M. Marikkar questioned how MP Aluthgamage had purchased houses in the UK.

“My grandfather was a millionaire and my father was a businessman and I always had funds to spend,” Aluthgamage replied.

This is the order of the day for most ministers. They assume they have performed their day's responsibility. What a waste of time and public money which can be used for a better cause.

This shows clearly the conduct of these two persons .The wealth of a one was revealed in a court case filed by his ex wife in the divorce case. The whole country knows this man was a clerk at central finance Kurumagala . With regard to Sajith it was revealed by AKD how Sajith had distributed millions of rupees among temples without the approval of the cultural fund and finally how he got the signatures of the board of the cultural fund few days before the last presidential election. It’s similar to the old proverb that the port is calling the kettle is black.

Is Aluthgamage a British citizen?? Did the money spent on buying houses was from money laundering? The British government should look into the purchasing of houses by Aluthgamage.

Don't waste public tax money on useless arguments. If anyone has done wrong take them to court and prove the misappropriation at your own cost! We will appreciate it very much and elect you in the next election!

As Lion, JVP too against developing religious places as Sajith spent on such places, according to Vijitha Herath. Ranil as the PM and a member avoided attending the meeting that was for the approval. And, the 2022 audit report was without signatures, having no validity. Aluth wasting time at the parliament at the needs of that Royal family.
