Sri Lanka's first potato strip (French Fries) processing factory, built in Kahattewela, Bandarawela, will be opened on Friday (11).

This factory has been built on the Kahattewela Sri Sangharaja Temple premises.

The factory, built under the financial assistance of the Small Scale Agricultural Entrepreneurship Programme (SAPP) of the Agriculture Ministry, is to be opened by Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.

More than Rs. 100 million had been spent on the construction of this potato strip processing factory. Potato strips are currently being imported to Sri Lanka, spending around Rs. 3,500 million annually, which goes to foreign countries.

Since there is a high demand for French Fries in this country, potato strips are prepared using locally grown potatoes. The factory buys potatoes from 250 farmers, and the daily production of potato strips is approximately 1,000 kgs.

French fries are deemed to be processed foods and is bad for your health. Does Sri Lanka want to go down this path? If so, keep tons of money to look after your health later on in life. Just look at the US and see what has happened.

When food is prepared under unhygenic conditions automatically one can experience bowel problems. Comparison cannot be made of different food since two sets could be considered equal if they include the same elements, When two sets have different elements they are said to be unequal. We Sri Lankans cherish our Pol Sambol!!!!!!!

I hope to see more Fish and Chips outlets in Colombo. We must cater for tourists, the Englishmen love it. A good enterprise to start. Drink hot tea to flush the oil or make fries in a Air Fryer, enjoy life you will be fine.

In Australia food is prepared under strict hygiene conditions. The kitchen has a separate distilled water container plumbed in to, wash vegetables and not tap water.
